On 21 March 2026, the third in-person event of this season’s hiking series “Latvijas izaicinājums” - “Amatas sarkano klinšu valstība” - took place.
It brought together around 330 nature and movement enthusiasts in one of the most scenically impressive locations in Latvia - the ancient valley of the Amata River.
On a sunny yet crisp spring morning, participants arrived ready for both challenge and adventure, choosing the most suitable of the four distances. This stage stood out with its terrain, cliff outcrops, and winding riverbanks, making every step a small adventure.
Throughout the day, there was constant movement and energy, as participants not only hiked but also took part in various activities and task stations that tested their accuracy and added extra excitement. Snack stations and sausages grilled over the campfire became an essential part of the hiking experience and relaxation. The routes wound through forests, along cliffs, and beside the river, offering ever-changing scenery throughout the day.
The spring weather created perfect conditions for hiking - not too cold, not too warm - just right for enjoying movement in nature. Many participants admitted that this was one of the most visually impressive stages so far.
At the finish, everyone was welcomed with a well-earned moment of rest - warm soup, conversations, and a sense of togetherness that has become an integral tradition of Latvijas izaicinājums. At the end of the day, participants also gathered for a shared lottery, where prizes provided by partners were drawn.
“Amatas sarkano klinšu valstība” once again proved that hiking is not just about distance in kilometres - it is a celebration in nature for all of us together.
The next time we will all meet again will be in autumn, at the final event of the Latvijas izaicinājums hiking series - “Melnās priedes stāsts” in Riga.
