Zebrus Endurance, held from 23 to 24 May, was a two-day hiking challenge that tested not only your legs, but also your character. Some hikes leave your legs sore. Others leave you reflecting on the experience long after it’s over.
Zebrus Endurance was exactly that kind of adventure. Two long days, dozens of kilometres underfoot, sleepless hours, misty mornings, forest roads and bogs, companions to laugh with and share moments of silence with, and the feeling that every next kilometre demanded a little more from you. Yet that is exactly where the value of this adventure lies.
On the morning of 23 May, there was a sense of excitement at the base camp in Vipēdis. Some participants were making final adjustments to their backpacks, others were enjoying a second morning coffee, while a few were still trying to comprehend that they were about to set off on a 55, 75, or even 100-kilometre route. The atmosphere was filled with anticipation. It is something that cannot truly be described - it has to be experienced.
The first kilometres passed easily. The fresh greenery of spring, sunlight filtering through the trees, and lively conversations made it easy to forget the challenge that lay ahead. But the Zebrus route soon revealed its true character. Forest trails alternated with bogs, dense undergrowth, and fallen trees. Rolling hills made tired, wet feet feel even heavier, and before long, night quietly arrived.
Every participant who chose to continue after resting at the support camp and enjoying a warm bowl of evening soup eventually encountered their own limits. This is where the real battle begins - the battle with yourself. A place where every step becomes more meaningful than the one before.
The first 100-kilometre finisher completed the route in 21 hours and 13 minutes, crossing the finish line at 4:20 a.m. What an incredible display of endurance!
Sunday morning at the support camp began with a hearty and nourishing breakfast porridge, providing participants with the energy needed to continue their journey.
The final kilometres are always special. By then, the body has long been exhausted, but a new thought begins to appear: I am actually going to do this. In the finishing stretch, it became clear just how differently people experience this challenge. Some crossed the line laughing, others in silence, and for some, tears filled their eyes. But every single participant had gone through their own personal test of endurance.
For some participants, Zebrus Endurance proved to be an exceptionally difficult challenge this year, and we also had several evacuations from the course. Yet we believe that even those who were unable to finish gained valuable experience, tested their limits, and strengthened their resilience. Sometimes the greatest victory is not reaching the finish line, but having the courage to try in the first place. We sincerely hope that this adventure will become not an ending, but the beginning of even greater challenges in the future.
Zebrus Endurance is not a race for the fastest time. It is a story about perseverance, patience, and the ability to keep going when things become difficult. It is about people who choose not the easiest path, but an adventure that stays with them long after the finish line.
Thank you to everyone who was part of this adventure. To every participant, supporter, team member, and everyone who helped create an atmosphere where fatigue mixed with laughter, and challenges were shared through genuine togetherness.
